Nests for Rescate: Thank You, Mountain View Knitting Guild!

**The Mountain View Knitting Guild knitted nests for the orphaned babies in our wildlife clinic.**

Recently, Jen Hohenboken of New Hampshire’s Mountain View Knitting Guild visited Rescate Wildlife Rescue Center and donated nests the group made ! Their project, dubbed “Nests for Rescate” helps the rescued wildlife in our clinic feel cozy and warm…especially the babies.

A Sneak Peak Into Our Clinic

Rescate Wildlife Rescue Center received over 3,000 wild individuals in 2025. The clinic is the first stop for all wildlife that comes through our doors! These patients are sometimes orphaned baby rescues who need special attention and care.

Because we hope to release these individuals back into nature when they are grown, we try to limit contact with humans as much as possible. This is where these cozy, knitted nests come in handy! Young birds, possums, and other species can use the nests in our clinic as they grow.

About “Nests for Rescate”

What inspired the guild’s “Nests for Rescate” drive?

“The mission of Rescate seems well thought out and clearly prioritizes the animals’ safety and well-being. That is something any animal lover can admire and respect,” Jen explained. “Crafting for Rescate is a great way to put our technology down, hang out with like-minded folks in real time and do something tangible for wildlife as well.”

There could be another “Nests for Rescate” drive in the future!

“It was kind of a last-minute challenge right around the holidays…More knitters and crocheters are now very interested in participating,” Jen said.

Any tips for those looking to start a similar community?

“Go for it! Everyone is searching for in-person community right now. Lots of people want to participate, but they can be daunted by being the one to put something together. But it’s not that hard once you get started, especially if you ask for help,” Jen advised. “If you get stuck with a specific skill in a new craft, there is always guidance on YouTube.”

Nests of varying sizes and shapes accommodate wildlife of all kinds!

Veterinary Internship

Veterinary interns work directly with our highly experienced veterinarian and our rehabilitation staff. You will assist with with animal intakes, exams, treatments, surgeries, feeding and record keeping.

Wildlife Internship

Work hands-on in the Lifetime Care Sanctuary, Endangered Species Breeding Center and the Rescue Center, feeding animals, conducting behavioral research, and creating enriching experiences for our non-releasable animals or even clicker train our Jaguar „Guapo“.

Road to freedom Internship

This internship gives you the unique opportunity to not only see, but to play an active part in what we call: The Road to Freedom. Aid the animals in their release, monitor and research them and their second chance at life in the wild, the final step on their Road to Freedom.

Waves of Change Project

This project is located between Golfo Dulce’s protected marine area and the vast rainforest of Piedras Blancas National Park on the shore of Costa Rica. Studying the area’s amazing biodiversity, learning field conservation techniques and helping to return rescued wildlife back to the wild while blending scientific research with local knowledge.
